      Native Pollinators

What are Native Pollinators? Why should you attract them to your garden? How can you attract them to your garden? How will they help you produce more vegetables? Join us at 6:00 on June 17 at Garfield Community Garden on Woodland St. in Warren to find the answers to these questions. Garfield Community Garden will be kicking off National Pollinator Week activities with this talk by OSU Extension Pollinator Volunteer Specialists Kenneth and Danita Davis. Wednesday, June 19 at 6:00 Garfield Community Garden will unveil its new native bee condos which are in the GCG Berry and Native Wildflower Meadow. There will be a demonstration on how to make your very own orchard bee houses. For the cost of materials, while they last, you will be able to make and take your own orchard bee house. To finish GCG Pollinator Week activities, Garfield Community Garden will have butterfly activities for children and a pollinator seed giveaway for all community members from 11-1 on Saturday, June 22 and 2-3 on Sunday, June 23. Information about which plants will attract butterflies and hummingbirds to your home flower garden will be distributed. June 17-23, 2019 has been designated as National Pollinator Week. Pollinator Week is a time to celebrate pollinators and spread the word about what can be done to protect them. Twelve years ago the United States Senate unanimously approved a week in June as “National Pollinator Week” as a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. Pollinator Week is now an international celebration of the valuable pollination activities provided by bees, butterflies, birds, beetles, and bats.
